Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999)
Crime Drama
dir. Jim Jarmusch
My second Jarmusch film, and one that I like a lot. Was made fun of for knowing what this movie is. My friends see me as the guy who watches 'niche movies', so when I brought this up for our weekly Discord Movie Night I was ridiculed a little bit. I don't think this film vindicated me in the slightest, but that's fine.

Was expecting an exciting action thriller film, something along the wavelengths of John Wick or maybe Heat, but it's Jarmusch, so who am I kidding. Maybe for his standards this is an action-packed crime feature, but for the rest of us this is an incredibly slow (but satisfying!) film. I think when I watched Patterson, his movie about a bus driver poet, I was bogged down by how leisurely the pace was. However, after seeing Ghost Dog, I've become acclimated to this sort of pacing.

Ghost Dog is a fresh take on the assassin crime drama. It employs all the usual pieces: Italian mafia in a urban area, the soft-spoken yet deadly killer, clever assassination schemes, etc.
